Looks like Menlo Park is pretty safe - unless you are a bike. Then again, these are only the crimes reported to and then by the police.

Bike thieves are patrolling apartment carports. Don't leave your bike there unless you use a really heavy duty lock.

Campbell (and other Bay Area cities) are using "bait bikes" to arrest bike thieves. These are bikes with GPS trackers and values above the felony theft limit. Menlo Park has a huge problem with felony bike theft. Can our police try bait bikes? Campbell news report: Web Link

There are rings of bike thieves who steal bikes from one university town and then sell them to students at swap meets and on Craig's List in other university towns. My reaction to reading the above police calls, heavy on bike thefts, was that the thieves must be stocking up on their supplies for the upcoming school year. Sale start in August! Get your stolen bike here!
