The dunderhead who decided to route the detour down Manzanita Way and Winding Way in Woodside should lose their job for the dangerous road hazard they have created. Neither road is capable of handling the volume of traffic from Sand Hill and now has vehicles speeding far in excess of the (25 mph) speed limit through narrow residential streets with limit passing space and often no shoulders.
Thoughtless and dangerous!

Agreed that Manzanita and Winding are not appropriate for lots of traffic, but are there any other options given which piece of the road was closed? I don't live right there, but nearby enough that I've driven and cycled on both of those roads a lot and I can't think of any parallel alternatives short of closing Sand Hill back at 280 and forcing everyone onto Alpine to go to either Woodside Road or Alpine.

There are other options that should have been used such as:
- Whiskey Hill Road to Woodside Road
- Woodside Road to Portola Road
Traffic control by the Sheriff at the 4-way stop in the center of Woodside could have been used to mitigate the inevitable backups.
Better communication could have provided folks with the alternative of using Alpine Road to access Portola Valley.

Agreed! I live in this area and I couldn't believe their suggested route. As mentioned earlier Whiskey Hill or Woodside Road exit off 280 much smarter. Also, cars coming down the 84 hill should be diverted down Woodside Road rather than trying to get to Sand Hill through Portola only to be routed back to Mt. Home.
Not sure what they were thinking.
