When Hillary was first lady she told reporters that she had in fact been named after the man who conquered Everest — a claim that was greeted with disbelief and guffaws and was widely viewed as bit of fiction invented for political expediency and to embellish her reputation. It did embellish her reputation but not in a way that she desired.

Critics at the time dismissed the nonsensical claim based on the fact that Edmund Hillary didn't become a household name in the U.S.until six years after Hillary was born.

However, not desiring to be caught in a lie, Hillary with great chutzpah invents another lie that her mother read about the New Zealand Beekeeper in a magazine when she was pregnant with her in 1947- six years prior to Sir Edmund Hillary's successful ascent of Mount Everest.

So, how likely was Dorothy Rodham, a Chicago housewife, to have seen an article about a New Zealand mountain climber in 1947?

A U.S. Newspaper, the Houston Chronicle performed an exhaustive search of several major American newspapers (including the Chicago Tribune) and found that not a single one made any reference to Sir Edmund Hillary, in any context whatsoever, prior to June 1953. So it's easy to conclude, beyond a reasonable doubt, that he was not reported on by the American Media prior to his successful assault on Mt. Everest that year.
