Waiting for a bus "...about 2 a.m. Saturday morning." What did she expect?!? We have been told time and time and time and time and time and time and time and time and time again, not to be out on the streets alone late at night!!! Sorry, I have no sympathy for this woman. :(

She has every right to be on our streets at any time of day. I want that man, who is a danger to our society, out of here!

I don't understand the no-sympathy comment... Can you elaborate? Do you feel this person doesn't deserve a victim label perhaps? Your response indicates frustration elsewhere -- what's on your mind, neighbor?

Just because we have the "right" to do something, doesn't always mean it's the smart thing to do.

I have no sympathy for women (or anyone) who get in trouble after being told numerous times it is dangerous to be alone out on the streets late at night, or early in the morning, or in places where there are not a number of people around.

Pearl - When does a victim become the problem. The law does not state days and times of week, nor places to avoid. Certainly a choice may make one more likely to be a victim, but in no means ever should a victim be blamed.

Folks, this has nothing to do with "rights" or "laws", it has to do with common sense!!!

Maybe she didn't have a choice of being at the bus stop at 2 am - who's to say she wasn't on a catering crew or going home from babysitting. Some people get off work in the middle of the night and being somewhere not safe is not a choice, but a necessity. The important thing is to find the guy that tried to take advantage of that woman's situation, not blame her.

Pearl - it has everything to do with rights and laws. We live in a place in the world that uses those principals to guide us. Using your same logic, a woman who gets drunk on a college campus and is raped is no longer a victim because she drank. Fortunately even those who do not like the law in this type of case are protected by it.

Although being out alone late at night is a bit risky here, especially for a woman, it should not be.

I find Pearl's comment, and subsequent rejoiners fairly despicable.

- she has no sympathy for someone who might have been kidnapped and murdered?

- anyone out at that time DESERVES whatever might happen to them?

- if someone does something that is not smart, for whatever reason, they deserve bad consequences.

- If someone is lacking in common sense they DESERVE to be criminal victims?

I am personally astounded that anyone would seriously say that or defend that position, so I have to assume this is some kids ideal of practicing their trolling. Odd how kids seem to learn trolling so well in our society, but their academic achievements keep circling the drain.

Just for informational purposes I used to know a women who worked the late shift at a local nursing home that did not have a car and was forced to use the bus at the wee hours of the morning to get to and from work. Would it have been "smart" or more "common sensical" or her to not work or starve rather than to be out going to her job in the early morning?
