Steve Wagstaffe avoids Preliminary Hearing in Sheriff Deputy Juan Lopez case

Original post made by Michael G. Stogner, another community, on Dec 17, 2015

Grand Jury Indictments are usually done at the beginning of a criminal case. Steve Wagstaffe chose to get one just hours before the Preliminary Hearing in Sheriff Deputy Juan Lopez's case was to start. This comes over 1 year after charges were filed and it eliminates the chance for Deputy Lopez to defend himself in a Preliminary Hearing.

Grand Jury Transcripts to be available next week.

San Mateo County Sheriff Sgt. Jason E. Peardon was not on the Witness List. He was responsible for the Internal Agency Investigation of Sheriff Deputy Juan Lopez. The same investigation that on November 10, 2015 Undersheriff Carlos Bolanos stated under oath determined Deputy Lopez was Dishonest. Undersheriff Carlos Bolanos never said how he came to that conclusion, just credited Peardon's Investigation.

Hon. Judge Mark Forcum informed the attorneys that the transcripts would be sealed for 10 days and they would get copies after that.

It is now 1 month and 4 days later and the transcripts are still not available.

Welcome to San Mateo County
