SMC Sheriff Greg Munks endorses Carlos Bolanos for Sheriff 2018

Original post made by Michael G. Stogner, another community, on Nov 6, 2015

It's official, Sheriff Greg Munks has announced he is moving on and he is endorsing Carlos Bolanos for Sheriff in 2018.
That is 3 years from now, this shows what has been on his mind recently, he just ran for Sheriff in 2014 and refused to debate with Write In candidate Juan Lopez or reporters. Now he is campaigning for Carlos Bolanos 3 years in advance.

Welcome to San Mateo County

To the Almanac: in 2013, two Almanac reporters were given - AT THEIR REQUEST- copies of a 2011 Palo Alto Daily Post about Mike Bolanos, son of Carlos Bolanos, who was sued by a victim in a fight outside the Pioneer Saloon in Woodside. Oddly, as the paper noted, Carlos Bolanos rushed to the scene of the fight but NO police report was taken and the story was hidden from the press. At the time, Mike Bolanos had applied to be a police officer with the Mountain View police department.

Other sheriff deputies have questioned why the incident was hushed up (the Almanac has these deputies' names) and why no police report was taken. They also question Carlos Bolanos's statements about why he went to the scene. They say he NEVER shows up when incidents like this happen The only reason the story came out was because the victim in the fight sued Mike Bolanos. Also, Carlos Bolanos told the Palo Alto Daily Post that his son was the victim. Witnesses say however it was the other way around and that Mike Bolanos started the fight.

What happened to the lawsuit? Has the Almanac ever followed up on this story ? If this comment is deleted, then shame on the Almanac. The person who gave you this information and background, with names of other deputies who spoke about this manner, worked very hard to get the info. Deleting comments on both Munks and Bolanos, caught in an FBI sting, is doing a terrible disservice to readers who need to be informed about the election.

Please follow up on what happened to that lawsuit about Mike Bolanos.

25.) Undersheriff:Son victim in bar fight
Author: RYAN THOMAS RIDDLE Daily Post Staff Writer

A newly hired Mountain View reserve police officer and son of San Mateo County Undersheriff Carlos Bolanos was the victim of a bar fight in Woodside and called his father before calling sheriff's deputies, the undersheriff told the Post yesterday. Mike Bolanos, 22, was at the Pioneer Saloon at 2925 Woodside Road about three weeks ago when his friend got into a fight over the friend's ex-girlfriend, said Carlos Bolanos.
When Mike tried to break it up, he was punched in the head, said

Y'all held back for as long as you could, didn't ya?

Maybe pick a better candidate to back this time - maybe someone who can file his/her papers on time (not be late due to traffic) and doesn't later get arrested in a conspiracy with a group delivering cell phones to gang members in jail.

The Great news about that" arrested in a conspiracy with a group delivering cell phones to gang members in jail."

is that there is ZERO Evidence to prove it.

Actually "Dialogue of the Deaf", from the other thread on the disciplinary hearing for Lopez, wouldn't one assume that he would be fired/demoted, etc. in this hearing if there actually was any evidence he delivered cell phones to gang members in jail?

Instead the action Lopez is appealing, according to Stogner, is:

1) Sheriff Office has identified him as a Brady Officer.

2) 150 hour suspension without pay.

Seems there is reason to believe the charges of delivering cell phones to gang members just never had any evidence behind it.

@evidence - Isn't that what any good Criminal Defense lawyer will say to the public, prior to the trial?

"Honest, folks, nothing to see here! No evidence! My guy is as honest as the day is long! Except that short day when he failed to file his election papers on time, just ignore that one."

I look forward to the trial. Then we get a better look at who is blowing smoke - our law enforcement agencies led by a man re-elected multiple times, prosecuting an alleged bad cop, or anonymous posters on a blog.

Time will tell.

@dialogue -

You've got a point; I don't really know much about Deputy Lopez other than the fact that he no history of "mistaking" a house of prostitution with bars on the windows, staffed by underage and coercively exploited girls with a legitimate place for him to receive a relaxing massage.

Kudos to Sheriff Munks for being open minded about first appearances though. Sounds like Deputy Bolanos is a chip off the old block.

Hoo Rah for integrity.

How does the failure to file election papers on time make him dishonest? Careless, perhaps, but I'm not following the deception involved.

Again the Good News is it is not a crime to miss the filing date by 6 minutes after following instruction from the election staff. "Except that short day when he failed to file his election papers on time, just ignore that one."

Wait till you see the photo the DA has produced as evidence, it shows two inmates not one but two, one is black and one is white, Neither of the two in the photo are the alleged gang member the DA is talking about.

Time will tell

Looking forward to seeing both the story from the Almanac on tomorrow's Lopez hearing, as well as reports from observers.

I'd love to see a reporter do deep background on Bolanos. Like Munks he comes from Palo Alto Police Department. IIRC he oversaw the Community Service Officers and would take them out for drinks after work.

Bolanos was also Chief of the Redwood City Police Department for 12 years,

Hmmm says "IIRC he oversaw the Community Service Officers and would take them out for drinks after work."

That is exactly what happened in the San Carlos Law Enforcement patrol by the Sheriff Office in the Colin T. Smith case.

After this Deputy left his patrol 3 possibly 4 times with or without permission to stalk and threaten a couple in Redwood City during his night shift which ended at 6:00AM everyone on his TEAM met at the Orchid Room where they had drinks He had 2 Drinks before he went to Redwood City and viciously assaulted the victim. Not one of San Carlos's leaders ever bothered to contact the victims and offer our insurance, or some help with the hospital bills, or thearapy etc.

That is one of the conversations that Cities need to include when they outsource their services it doesn't mean they aren't responsible for this behavior.

The same ol' posters are desperate - the guy they backed got busted and all their posts reflect pure desperation, [part removed.]

Are they honestly hoping for justice, or just desperate to not be embarrassed [part removed.]
