Interesting -- while this is a county park and all the community meetings have been held in North Fair Oaks, it's the folks around the park who will be impacted by decisions that are made. Hopefully, any decision that is made will include input from the park's neighbors not just those people who use it.

If I hadn't read this article today I wouldn't have know about this. I don't remember seeing any outreach to those neighborhoods around the park.

The Parks Department has worked to engage park neighbors and users in this process with a focus on learning the interests and needs of the community related to outdoor space. Our first community meeting was held on May 20 and hosted by the Menlo Park Parks and Recreation Department at the community center on Alma Road.

To invite and to keep park neighbors informed of the project, we mailed notices to home owners who live within 500 yards of the park. In addition, we have posted information at www.smcoparks.org, in park kiosks, and via Facebook, twitter, Next Door, and news releases. We have partnered with the Friends of Flood Park and with the office of San Mateo County Board of Supervisor Warren Slocum, the elected representative for District 4, which includes Redwood City, North Fair Oaks, Menlo Park, and East Palo Alto. We are open to learning about other communication avenues that would help us reach more of the community.

At the meeting on September 1, participants will have a chance to look at three conceptual designs that reflect what we learned through community meetings and surveys, and again share their ideas for a refreshed Flood County Park.
