Atherton exploring town-wide, very high-speed fiber optic network

Plans for an Atherton-wide, very high-speed optical fiber network, designed to provide faster and more reliable Internet service, with the goal of free basic service for everyone in town, were presented to the Atherton City Council on Wednesday, May 7.

Although I just heard of it, I have high hopes for this project. Our internet options have been both unreliable and slow... quite ironic for Silicon Valley!

Is there a way neighboring unincorporated areas like Menlo Oaks could get added to this? Is this related to the Sonic.net expansion?
