Bay Area Freedom Train, honoring Martin Luther King Jr., makes its final ride

Monday's 54-mile round trip of the Bay Area's Freedom Train from San Jose to San Francisco to honor the civil rights legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was its last after three decades, and all 1,400 seats were sold out.

Don't know who wrote this story. But how about a little clarification. Is CalTrain discontinuing the annual Freedom Train? It is not clear from the article.

According to the Mercury-News, these trains are chartered by the MLK Association, who pays for them through private ticket sales and private sponsorships. This is not a regularly scheduled Caltrain train. Sponsorship has declined so much this year, that the association cannot afford to pay for next year's train. Perhaps renewed interest in Martin Luther King and civil rights in general will drum up enough private donations to run another train next year.
