Tonight: Education author to speak on achievement, learning

Alfie Kohn, lecturer and author of numerous books and articles on education, parenting and human behavior, will be at the Oshman Family JCC in Palo Alto at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, to give a talk titled "Performance vs. Learning - The Costs of Overemphasizing Achievement."

I read "Punished by Rewards" when it came out. As an educator and a parent, I was extremely impressed by the conclusions that he drew from the research that he cited. This book should be widely read and his advice heeded.
