Atherton police: Beware 'plumbers' at the door

A pair of men posing as plumbers talked their way into two Atherton homes on Monday, Dec. 15, stealing money and jewelry while the residents were distracted, police said.

Breaks my heart to read this. I just can't understand why anyone would invite complete strangers into their home. I wouldn't even open the door, and would immediately call the police. So sorry this happened.

@Pearl. I wouldn't let them in either, but some people, such as the elderly or immigrants, are more susceptible to con artists posing as quasi authority figures. If I thought my water was contaminated, I'd worry too, but I'd also call the water company before letting anyone in.

I hope those creeps are caught.
