The lights are very pretty, however the enormous lighted signage advertising the "Holiday" Tree lighting ceremony are quite ugly and unnecessary at Fremont Park. Come on, if Community Services is going to make such a huge deal out of the Christmas Tree, at least call it what it is - or hold the ceremony at the Church across the street.

Holiday trees don't have to be religious. They were, after all, around before Christianity, and many atheists and agnostics and the non-religious get trees during the holiday season.

Okay, I'll bite. The Holiday Tree could be considered non religious, just as the lighting of a "Holiday" candelabra for the festival of lights could be considered non religious. So why isn't the City doing both? Breakfast with Santa isn't religious either. Oy.

You said it yourself in your post.

Civic organizations and leaders remove religion from winter holidays in the US, even though winter holidays originally were religious in nature. So what are you specifically complaining about? The pre-Christian origins of these traditions, the Christianized versions, or that they're celebrated in public places as non-religiously as possible? Your reasons for complaining aren't clear.
