Measure M supporters have now resorted to stealing other people's names
(The original post on this topic made by Peter Carpenter, Atherton: Lindenwood, on Oct 23, 2014)

The latest tactic of Measure M supporters is to fraudulently use other people's names on their Forum postings.

Here is a short sample from that fraudulent posting:

"Posted by P. Carpenter, a resident of Menlo Park: Central Menlo Park,
2 hours ago
Myth: "No Traffic" – Stanford and Greenheart's projects won't increase traffic

FACTS: Developers are seriously misleading you. Ninety percent of downtown office commuters drive from outside Menlo Park during rush hour. ....."

Beware - these people will lie, cheat and steal to pursue their self centered goal.

Vote No on M to send a message that such behavior is unacceptable.

The Almanac Editor has suggested the following rephrasing:

"A Measure M supporter appears to be trying to misrepresent himself/herself as me. "P. Carpenter of Menlo Park" is not me."

Fresh off the success of last week's Town Square post implicating Measure M supporters in a plot to appropriate his good name in this forum, a post so patently ridiculous the editors finally removed it altogether, Peter Carpenter has returned unfazed and unembarrassed with the same allegation, though one his editor/handler at the Almanac had him temper with his first comment.

Editor, why do you brook this nonsense? As I asked in the previous incarnation of this post, which you removed, is there any possibility someone reading this forum will confuse the single comment from an unregistered P. Carpenter of Menlo Park with the verbal largesse Peter Carpenter of Atherton bestows upon us here?

Is it a reasonable or rational reaction to label all Measure M supporters thieves given the single anonymous comment Peter cites above? Does the Almanac condone this behavior?

The ease and frequency with which Peter Carpenter, chief architect of the MenloParkDeservesBetter platform, foists intentional misstatements upon readers here and elsewhere online should give every Menlo Park voter pause.

People should never use another person's name on this site to mislead and deliberately misrepresent another person's stated view. If people do this, it will inevitably destroy this very worthwhile forum.

An obvious solution would be to only allow registered users to post comments.

Today's Daily Post reports that Save Menlo is listing individuals as supporters who are not actually supporter - including a former Mayor.

And now a number of people have reported that the signed the initiative petition but did not agree to be a supporter.
Here is the law on such use of initiative signatures:

"Elections Code Section 18650.

No one shall knowingly or willfully permit the list of signatures on an initiative, referendum, or recall petition to be used for any purpose other than qualification of the initiative or referendum measure or recall question for the ballot, except as provided in Section 6253.5 of the Government Code. Violation of this section is a misdemeanor."

Save Menlo has failed to comply with disclosure requirements on its signs and, until over a month after I challenged them on this, on their web site pages. Now they are illegally using people's names as supporters. Is there no end to what they will do?

Are these the people that we want writing new laws?
