Almanac endorses No on Measure M

Original post made by Skip Hilton, Menlo Park: Suburban Park/Lorelei Manor/Flood Park Triangle, on Oct 16, 2014

Thank you to the Almanac editorial staff for the thorough and thoughtful analysis of Measure M.

"...the key question for residents opposed to the developments as proposed is this: Will Measure M address your concerns over increased traffic and building mass along the El Camino corridor? The answer, in our opinion, is no. Measure M's provisions fall short of achieving the intended goals — goals that we and many other of the measure's opponents are sympathetic to."

You also point out that the trigger for public benefit should be looked at, and indeed it should. But Measure M is not the right tool for the job - like a using a hammer on a wood screw - and will create litigation and other unforeseen consequences. It also perpetuates a terrible precedent of trying to resolve serious and complex city matters like zoning at the ballot box.

Thank you for agreeing with other reputable new outlets, our public school board, 13 former mayors and all current city council.members as well as countless others to endorse No on Measure M. Measure M is a Mistake for Menlo Park.
