Great advice from Vince Bressler

Original post made by Peter Carpenter, Atherton: Lindenwood, on Oct 4, 2014

Bressler email states - "When you are confronted with the breathless
arguments against Measure M, please remember what Yes on M actually
does"

Like - It stops the replacement of the downtown fire station until there is a city wide vote to approve that project.
Like - It defines banks FOREVER as places where there is the “on site circulation of money”
Like - anyone can stop anything simply by claiming it "frustrates " Measure M
Like - it encourages Greenheart and Stanford to develop their multiple projects separately to avoid Measure M's 100,000 sq ft of offices per PROJECT and these separate projects must have different, uncoordinated designs and each must have separate ECR entrances

Yes "please remember what Yes on M actually does" and FOR THAT REASON vote NO.

Like Section 4.1 which states "After this measure becomes effective, its provision shall prevail over and supersede ALL provisions of the municipal code, ordinances, resolutions, and administrative policies of the City of Menlo Park which are inferior to the Planning Policy Documents and in conflict with any provisions of this measure."

So if you do not want this poorly written Measure to take priority over everything else in the City's ordinances then vote No on Measure M.

Like it makes it impossible for any Santa Cruz ave buildings to put housing above retail because Measure M requires ground floor open space instead of balconies....and buildings on Santa Cruz are built up to the sidewalk.....

Measure M is a mistake
Vite NO on M

Like this definition of banks - "3. 3.3.3. As adopted on July 12, 2012, the ECR Specific Plan’s Appendix includes the following Commercial Use Classification for “Banks and Other Financial Institutions”: “Financial institutions providing retail banking services. This classification includes only those institutions engaged in the on-site circulation of money, including credit unions.” The foregoing Commercial Use Classification is hereby adopted by the voters. "

Do you really think that banks will be engaged in the ON-SITE CIRCULATION OF MONEY in 10 or 20 years? And Measure M's definitions are FOREVER unless changed by a city wide vote. In twenty years such a city wide vote would cost over a 1/4 of million dollars - to change one outdated definition.

This is what happens when two people and an unnamed lawyer try to amend a complex zoning ordinance with a poorly worded and totally unvetted initiative.
