Menlo Park: Preserving memory of a felled pine tree

At the site where a beloved Italian stone pine tree was cut down to prevent it from toppling over in Fremont Park, people left flowers, and a memorial written on wood: "RIP / We loved you / Killed 9/20/14 / ICUMP."

Aw, this reminds me of "The Giving Tree" by Shel Silverstein.
