Letter: Council criticized for considering 'water grab'

Original post made on Oct 1, 2014

I see that Menlo Park City Council member Kirsten Keith, up for re-election, held a $1,000-a-plate fundraiser at the Sharon Heights Golf and Country Club. This is the same country club that has for years been lobbying to drill for water in a city park and to send that water miles across the city to water its golf course.

Peter, no Menlo Park City Council candidate has ever held a $1,000-a-plate fundraiser. With new FPPC regulations, such a fundraiser would require that a separate FORM-497 to be filed within 24 hours for every attendee. The person that put you up to writing this letter should be ashamed. Voters will draw their own conclusions.

I saw the invitation to contribute $1,000 at Keith's fundraiser. Other contribution levels were also invited, and possibly no one ponied up $1K, but the lead request was for that amount.

Dear Facts, I do appreciate your effort to set the record straight, but if you read Form-497 carefully you'll see that it applies only to contributions received within the last 16 days before Election Day. I, too, was surprised by the $1K request-- I had not recalled ever seeing that level requested in a local MP campaign. If one wants to see what monies were raised at the Sharon event, wait until the City Clerk releases the candidates' Form-460, due to be filed by Oct 6.

Mr. Carpenter, will the names of donors and amount each donated be listed on the Form 460?

Oops...so sorry Peter...I mistakenly assumed Peter Carpenter had written the last comment. I do have the same question...will donors and amounts be listed on the form 460?

Yes. And thanks for not confusing me with someone else.
