Woodside School plans major building project next summer

Original post made by Andreas Mede, Woodside School, on Sep 23, 2014

Regarding, “Woodside School plans major building project next summer”, The Almanac, September 17, 2014, I would like to make the following points in reference to the Woodside School District’s plan to construct a new gymnasium:

1. The Bond Measure mailer from the District for the June 2014 Bond Measure makes no reference to the construction of a new gymnasium. I feel that the purpose of the bond measure funds was not accurately presented to the public.
2. Based on the image of the new gymnasium presented, the architectural quality of the proposed building seems to be very poor. Unfortunately, this continues the disappointing development of the Woodside Elementary School Campus. The prominent location of the proposed gymnasium in the town should require a building of higher quality. Better design would also help to educate the students as to the importance of our built environment.
3. Our cultural development should be of a much higher quality, the current proposal as presented is very poor indeed. Recent developments at Portola Valley’s town center are an indication of what can be achieved if some care is taken with new projects. I feel that the Town of Woodside deserves much better architecture and hope that the School District will reconsider the project in it’s current form.

Sincerely, Andreas Mede – Woodside
