Portola Valley residents report seeing mountain lion in backyard

The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office is investigating a report of a Friday night mountain lion sighting in Portola Valley.

I recall this same thing happening in Los Altos Hills during a drought in the 80s.

They were here first. Just live with them. It keeps you alert.

I know the traditional human answer is just kill it if it bothers you.

In this case, maybe just maybe, we can restrain ourselves from murder.

Either Tom H. doesn't comprehend that there's a difference between a human being and an animal, or he values animals above people.
Making communities safe for people is called civilization.
No one should have to worry about mountain lions attacking them or their children in our communities.

I am writing in response to the question above by pvres asking about where the sighting in Atherton occurred. It was between Monte Vista Ave and Linda Vista Ave, both streets run parallel to the Alameda and connect between Atherton Ave and Camino al Lago. It was sighted around 9:10pm on residential property.
