Over the past few months have come to avoid downtown Menlo Park. A few places regularly have people collecting funds for charity. Some are quite aggressive. As a senior citizen on a limited income I do have funds allocated on a regular basis for a few selected charities. But cannot afford anything more. It makes me very uncomfortable to encounter and refuse these people. So I just have stopped going to these places and even avoid walking near them if possible. Also have noticed an increase in the number of homeless lingering downtown some "panhandle" some not. My heart goes out to them -- but for the grace of God go I. But, again I do not have the funds to consistently give them. So, my visits to downtown have come to be few and far between.
