San Carlos Supermajority Vote Fails

Original post made by Jack Hickey, Woodside: Emerald Hills, on Jul 1, 2014

Thanks to councilmembers Grocott and Grasilli, who voted not to override protests of residents, San Carlos avoided an election which would have allowed a simple majority of voters to turn sensitive parkland in a predominantly senior residential area into a school site.
Supermajority votes by public agencies have provided a means for allowing such elections where a simple majority of voters can pass measures which normally would require a 2/3 vote.
In 1992, San Mateo County lobbied for legislation which allowed the supermajority vote of the Board of Supervisors to place a 1/2% sales tax measure on the ballot which needed only a simple majority to pass. Fortunately, the measure, also known as the Best Schools Proposal, was defeated.
Supermajority votes of the public should be restored for all tax measures.

Matt Grocott is the Gold standard for what a City Council member should be. We are so fortunate to have a man of Grocott's common sense and integrity sitting on the San Carlos City Council.

Matt,

Thank you for looking out for San Carlos residents

Matt Grocott has done it again looked out for the average resident, He knew this was wrong form the get go. Cart before the horse. Why some council members felt compelled to negotiate with the school district for a property zoned to be a park/open space. This is not the first time they got into rezoning first they took away the property rights of 101 owners who could no longer rent space to billboards on private property . Public property was a $200,000 a year different story, the City just happened to own a perfect little piece for an electronic sign once they got rid of the competition.

Thank you also goes to Bob Grasselli for your vote
