Atherton council: No interest in outsourcing cops

Atherton City Council members began their review of the town's 2014-15 budget at their May 21 meeting by making it clear there is one project in the budget report they have absolutely no interest in -- a study of outsourcing the town's police services.

I disagree with hiring addition police officers with the surplus. The Town should reduce the parcel tax instead of billing the full amount.

Ron, it's funny you should mention that. Bill Widmer as well as the other council members did promise to fully or at least partially abate the parcel tax if the town had a surplus. But now, Widmer is staying silent on this issue. So are the other council members who made this promise, but he's up for re-election, so the spotlight is going to stay on him.
