Editorial: Senators try to close transitional kindergarten loophole

The bill is a long way from passage, but at least two influential state legislators, Sens. Jerry Hill and Darryl Steinberg, are committed to passing a measure that would require all school districts in the state to provide another full year of kindergarten, allowing 4-year-olds to attend.

Actually, it's pretty easy to understand why Las Lomitas is not offering TK: 1) it's unfair to provide a year of free pre-school to only the oldest 1/4 of students, and 2) it's not the most effective use of taxpayer resources since all of Las Lomitas students already come to Kindergarten having attended pre-school.

Would be great to have kindergarten for 4 year olds. Kindergarten with 5 is too late and preschool for low-income families is too expensive.
