This movie does not deserve four stars. There is much too much gratuitous fighting, unbelievable sword and archery skills on the part of two elves, and repeated glossing over of key moments from the book.

The addition of a female character is welcome and very well integrated into the story. The dragon scenes are also well executed. All scenes with Gandalf are also eminently watchable.

I'd see it again for the dragon scenes -- I might better understand the narrative once I'm past the dragon's endless slithering to punctuate its points as it debates the humans -- but I'd have to sit through the inanity that comes before it.
