Atherton bans vehicle-camping

Atherton's ordinance banning overnight camping in vehicles was finalized on Nov. 20 by a unanimous vote of the City Council. The ordinance, the town's attorney insisted, "is a safety thing, not a homeless issue."

Rent has become so expensive in the Bay Area, but especially on the Peninsula, that it's forced some people to live in their vehicles. The police's reasons for seeking the ban don't ring true.
