I sent an e-mail to Sequoia Healthcare District CEO Lee Michelson regarding this topic. His response is revealing:
"I am sure that they are thrilled to receive our assistance and we are happy with their performance. I am pretty sure that I understand what philanthropy is and it differs from government support. I am sure that you are aware that government at all levels: federal. State, municipal, county, special district etc. support social; and health programs. Do you honestly think that if we could replace government support with charitable donations? If you think that you need a strong reality check, anytime that you want to raise the $9 million dollars to replace our dollars go for it."
I am sure that "government at all levels: federal. State, municipal, county, special district etc. support social; and health programs." And, that they do it with a religious fervor. That's the problem. Have you noticed how difficult it is to remove incumbent politicians? Do you think, perhaps, they are using tax dollars to build a constituency of beneficiaries?
The Constitution of the United States says "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion,...". Somewhere along the way, Congress has passed laws effectively enabling the establishment of a state religion (I call it Secular Humanism).
