If the shooter was being attacked by someone with a baseball bat it sounds like self defense to me. The person wielding the bat made the unfortunate choice of bringing a bat to a gun fight.

Maybe the suspect was defending himself, but violently resisting arrest and injuring an NET officer will mean charges. Was the gun legal? I doubt it; this is not Florida.
