Why was the car parked on the tracks? I guess the driver felt the train would go around it

I agree with Steve. This incident happened 4 days ago. That is enough time for the media to write a story about what really happened instead of just reposting a brief press release.

Although it a relatively complex cluster of streets, the Main Street CalTrain crossing is immediately next to Sequoia Station. When stopped, the front of a NORTHBOUND train (as in this event) is just a few feet from the gates that guard the intersection.
It would be very difficult for a car NOT to know there is a train. It would have been just a few feet away.
