Menlo Park: Huge tree limb lands on car

An Almanac reader submitted these photos of a huge oak tree limb that broke off and landed on a car parked near the gym at the Menlo Park Civic Center on Sunday.

This is a problem all over our area. Next time you are on The Alameda in Atherton....look up at the hazard above you.

The trees have not been maintained, and limbs hang over the street at extreme angles and are about to fall. This will be disastrous to people in cars below.

I recall taking a detour through that parking lot on my bike a week or so ago because of a loud other-worldly creaking I heard. It sounded like a very large bird in distress. It came from above.

I kid you not. I was a little afraid of what I might find.

The noise did not repeat so I took off.
