The winding roots of this tree, the fact that the picture is in black and white, and a "reflecting pool" that you have to look three times to figure out what it is? This is something out of The Blair Witch Project or the Old Willow in Lord of the Rings.
Why is the pool so close? Because the tree likes it that way, that's why. Maybe the pool attracts victims. Maybe its victims are easier to subdue after a little soak in the reflecting pool. Who knows what lurks in the hearts of trees? Not all trees, but some, I think, I'm pretty sure.
