Thank God for those brave firefighters, that neighborhood could have lost 10 homes.

"..that neighborhood could have lost 10 homes."
Drive down the street. Large lots, well irrigated (never a drought in A-town!) There was zero chance of any sort of 'firestorm' taking multiple homes.
Your hyperbole is duly noted. Reality notes that Engine 3 was about 900 meters away from the fire - Station 3 is literally a block away at 32 Almendral.
Brave first responders? Yes. Well trained, equipped and well distributed resources? Ding, ding, and ding.
Talk of closing houses or engine companies (talking to you, shallow alto) is folly.
Peter: your turn. Any word on cause and why it became involved so fast (for a carport)?

The point is the fire department responded quickly and quickly put the fie out. Yes well trained and well equipped. What did you think you were paying for.

This is not the place to debate the merits of our public servants, but we were eye witnesses to excellence in action. We live close behind the house that had the fire yesterday and I can tell you my heart was pounding when I looked out a back window and saw a HUGE smoky fireball licking above the tops of 100-foot-tall Redwoods that separate them from us. This was way more than a "little shed on fire"! Shades of San Bruno - I thought a gas main had burst again. Within a half hour of the time the sirens started, the smoke diminished and it was over. With the stiff afternoon "sea-breeze" at the time, yes there could have been more homes involved. These fellows earned their keep right then and there.
