Atherton city manager gets compensation boost, sort of

With one council member calling the change "outrageous," the Atherton City Council last night (May 15) approved a compensation increase, that by some calculations is a decrease, for City Manager George Rodericks.

There's no "sort of" here, since the $2,500 per month travel allowance was set to expire in June, when Rodericks was supposed to move to Atherton. He chose not to. His choice, but he shouldn't get a windfall for it. A terrible decision, I must say. Widmer is right. Who gets that kind of raise after six months on the job in a financially strapped town?
