Those were the days ... in Portola Valley

In the early 1900s, growing strawberries for the San Francisco market was a big business in Portola Valley. In this undated photo, George Nahmens displays a tray of berries. He is sitting on a chest used to ship the fruit to San Francisco. Each chest could hold 20 trays of berries. ==I Photo courtesy Portola Valley Archives.==
