Make sure Atherton cops get everything they want, including the money they want, the boss they want, and the promotions they want. Otherwise they might leave. Be scared, very scared.

I believe (hope) that Yup's post was done with tongue in cheek, but I also believe Officer Fed Up's comment was seriously intended--FU, please tell me I missed the humor. Given everything I have read, heard, seen, to say "officers are going to go where they are wanted and apprciated" is an insult to the intelligence of the residents of Atherton. Nowhere else would they get the money they get, the freedom to do the totally non-dangerous things they do to earn that money, and be allowed to intimidate the populace the way they do-filming spublic meetings. Okland & Richmond can't even get approval to put security survelliance cameras in public places!

Well, officer fed up, you just try and go get another job at a real police department and see what happens. Methinks you'll be staying in Atherton and complaing for a long time. The fact your chief wants to bring in a sergeant from outside (not at all an unusual move in small agencies) should tell you something about the quality of the officer corps he has to select a new sergeant from. In fact, it speaks volumes. Try looking in the mirror before you further embarass yourself by whining here.

Huh, I guess someone is worried that their armed butlers are gonna get their feelings hurt due to an outsider being hired - again. Welcome to the real world! Yes, take it personally - & professionally. If you're smart, it could be an opportunity to learn any number of things.

I think it's the "armed butlers" that have an issue here not the citizens of Atherton. The Atherton hoy ploy haven't a clue as to the inner workings of their police department beyond how it actually affects them. You know, if their mail isn't taken in when they're out of town, if their lawns don't get watered, the usual nonsense. Whether someone gets promoted from within? They haven't a clue nor a care. Unless, of course, it creates a problem with their security checks while they're on vacation. All things they could pay security guards to do.......never mind.
