That wasn't expensive firewood it was a cheap way for someone to improve their view. Just another wealthy individual flaunting the rules.

I used to have a sunny garden with flowers, bushes and a lawn. Now, thanks to a neighbor's enormous eucalyptus trees, I have no lawn, no flowers, no sun, and a bunch of debris from the trees. But, hey, eucalyptus trees have more rights to sunshine than people, native flowers and bushes have.
What is wrong with requiring that huge fire and storm hazards be removed?

nothing is wrong with removing the trees. Why don't you ask your neighbor to do it? Put in the proper paperwork and get permission unlike the person in this story.

I think they should have to pay the full fine. They should have to follow the rules just like everyone else and not flaunt bypass them. It's likely their removal would have been approved, so they should have done the right thing and applied and paid the minimal fee. Now they're complaining because they didn't follow the rules. Shameful.
