I don't understand the "giving back to the community" term. What does the community give to me that I should give back to it? Truly has me baffled. Honestly. Besides that, it seems to me that somehow "something" is assuming that I am a Christian and am celebrating Christmas and therefore I should "do something" for that reason.

Many synagogues organize activities on behalf of the community in conjunction with Jewish holidays. For example, my synagogue collects bags filled with food on Yom Kippur. But I'm assuming Carol is correct and you're only looking at people who celebrate Christmas?
Also, there are plenty of people who volunteer all year round, not just when they're guilted into it because "it's the season for giving." Any interest in truly generous people?
Editor's note: We are interested in stories about all holiday volunteering, not just volunteering by those who celebrate Christmas.
