Finally San Mateo County Voters get to VOTE

You would think an issue like this would have been easier since we have a Charter Review Committee, a Civil Grand Jury, and citizens of numerous organizations who have spoke at Supervisor's meetings on THIS issue. Only 4 people have kept this vote from the people of San Mateo County. Carole Groom*, Rose Jacobs Gibson*, Adrenne Tissier and Mark Church ignored the Grand Jury report as well as the Charter Review and most county newspaper editorials.

*These Supervisors were appointed! I think that they should have recused themselves from the vote since both of them benifitted from the appointment. It was not put on the ballot for the voters to decide.

The great news is... it only takes a majority vote to pass. LET's VOTE.

Was it for the best interest of the voters that they ignored these recommendations? This has caused the lawsuit that was publicly promised at one of the Charter Review meetings. I was there. I wonder, how much has this cost the county in legal fees to date?

What's wrong with this picture? In May, 2011 Dave Pine ran for San Mateo County Superivisor to represent District 4. He won. He got more votes County-wide than anyone else, but hey!, he lost in his own district.

He represented a district that rejected him.

The Grand Jury that recommended District-wide (vs County wide) supervisorial elections. The report can be read at Web Link it's a good (short) read, and anticipates the law suit that finally got the supervisors to do the right thing.

Mickie Winkler says,

Factual check, Dave Pine ran for District 1.

"he lost in his own district."
It is true that Gina Papan received 310 more votes than Dave Pine for that district, but that is not important and not an issue at all with At-large elections. I am confident if it was just a district election, Dave Pine could have invested his $550,000 of campaign funds into District 1 instead of the entire county, and the results would have been different.
