What's missing from this is that our elected D.A., Stephen Wagstaffe, had supervisory responsibility for these employees until July 2011, when he transferred this function to the San Mateo County health department.
The thefts were discovered ALMOST IMMEDIATELY after the transfer. To me, this means they were OBVIOUS and APPARENT.
Why were these thefts not discovered by Wagstaffe and his management team?
At best, he's not fit to run that office.

Who was supervising these people before they were transfered to the Health Department? The DA's office. Some people, up to and including the DA, have things to answer for. Just like the Hanretty case, this screams of a lack of PROPER oversigt. Is this what we elect our DA to do? Toally drop the ball? I don't think so. It's a shame no one ran against him when he was elected. He doesn't seem to be any more competent than his predecessor.

I have to agree if the information posted by Missing Information is correct. A district attorney should have more experience controlling and preventing criminal conduct than a health department.
