Anyone know why heliopters were circling overhead from 5:30-6pm this evening (Sunday)?

It was likely all the security for the Steve Jobs memorial service at Stanford last night.

Can someone explain how having a helicopter hover over residential neighborhoods provided security, when I'm sure there were plenty of security staffers on the ground? Not that I would expect the beautiful people to care if they're disturbing the hoi polloi.
