Dangerous? Not even in top 10. Fire wants to run your ambulance calls? Fat taxes plus a bill for the same amount as a private ambulance? Nuthin' you can do about it. Fire decides the EMS system. Payments into Social Security? Not a dime. They got a sweet system just for them, with none of the support for the poor like SS. Most still collect SS based on spouse status. Scam 'disability' finding on retirement means untaxed retirement pay. Again, screw the public. Spiking of last few paychecks w/sickpay, huge bloat of retirement pay. Lifelong medical. Wake up public, these guys are out of control.

First, I'd like to say I agree with Ms Winkler's comment that this change is "forward thinking"; as was the previous great move by the district board to use bond money to pay down the pension obligation. I had to laugh at the comment by the union atty. that the the district really shouldn't worry about saving money because they can afford not to. Typical. I was a bit confused by the article, however, and perhaps someone can clarify something. It said the district only has 11 firefighters, then it went on to say that 41 of the 115 firefighters earn over $200K. I'm assuming an "engineer" is just another name for a more senior/experienced "firefighter", is this the case? Are there also varying levels of engineer?
