No one-stop shop for alcohol at Walgreens

Original post made on Aug 23, 2011

With far less contention than accompanied BevMo's successful request to sell alcohol on El Camino Real, the Menlo Park City Council voted 5-0 on Tuesday night to deny Walgreens a permit to sell beer and alcohol.

The council finally came to a sound unanimous decision on an issue.

What a shocker, I need a drink!

In my opinion this is slightly disappointing. I for one would like to see any competition for Beltramos, who refuse to give any charitable donations to the local public schools - instead reserving their donations for the private schools in the area. A little bit more competition might cause them to appreciate their customers.

Ooops, Judy, you need to check your facts. Beltramo's contributed when I asked for Menlo-Atherton High School.

I fail to understand why this is any business of the council. It's actually an outrageous decision. Why should I not be able to buy wine at Walgreens if I want to?

Mr. Davis, if you manage to survive parking your car in the parking lot behind Walgreen's, you deserve to buy ANY type of liquor at Walgreen's, imo. Sheesh, not only does Beltramo's need the competition (they are small biz bullies), dealing w/that parking lot reminds me of Clint's "The Gauntlet" - Menlo style. If anyone would be concerned about the competition, it should've been TJ's.
