Redistricting still splits city, but along 101

The California Citizens Redistricting Commission has divided Menlo Park into two congressional districts, but the border will be U.S. 101 under the latest proposal released Friday, July 29, not the broad swath that had run through the center of the city under an earlier proposal, running from 101 and stopping roughly just east of Sharon Heights.

Why do they have to split Menlo Park? Aren't we little enough to slide under the radar?

Atherton and/or Portola Valley could be split off, whole, to equalize population.

Perhaps the non-partisan, non-political California Citizens Redistricting Commission was simply recognizing a sad reality that many local residents understand but don't wish to acknowledge - that east and west of 101 are two very different places that receive very different levels of service and of attention.
