Re: Homicide Investigation Updates

July 24 – The East Palo Alto Police Department will conduct a press briefing tomorrow on Monday, July 25, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the East Palo Alto Police Substation, 219 Demeter Street.

Thanks to numerous tips from the community, the police department has identified persons of interest in two (2) recent homicides: the murder of Catherine Fisher, 19, which occurred on July 13, 2011, and the murder of Hugo Chavez, 26, which occurred on July 19, 2011.

The Department believes both murders were committed by member(s) of a violent trio during a crime-spree that spanned from East Palo Alto to Grand Junction, Colorado.

The trio are identified as Christian Fuentes, 20, Jaime Cardenas, 19, and Fidel Silva, 24, all from East Palo Alto. These suspects are also wanted in connection with two robberies, a burglary and a triple shooting and murder in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Christian Fuentes was arrested last week by the East Palo Alto and Fremont Police Department and is in-custody for a parole violation. Both Cardenas and Silva remain at-large and are wanted for the Colorado murder and for questioning in the two East Palo Alto murders.

The Department request that the photos of these suspects not be published until all witnesses have been interviewed. We appreciate your cooperation.

As the other thread on the above topic has been closed to the non-registered I'll use this one.

What is wrong with asking if an accused or suspect is a US citizen or legally in the country? The press reports the age, the sex, the city and state of residence and in many cases the country of citizenship if not a US citizen.

The press also reports previous and other crimes of the accused/suspect. Being in the US illegally is a crime so why is that ignored by the press in numerous cases?

There seems to be a double standard present regarding full reporting of information on accused/suspects from Latin America. Why is that?

Everyone in the US has a right to know where criminals are from and whether they are US citizens or not. We also have the right to know the statistics on criminals who are are in the US illegally just as we have a right to other statistics on criminals.

[Most law enforcement agencies in this country do not report a person's immigration status unless there is a felony charge. We suggest you take up your concern about this issue with your local legislator if you want to see immigration reform. In the meantime, we will not tolerate racist comments on this site.]

Thanks for the info. However the EPA crimes were murder and thus felony charges. Therefore when and if you get the status info please let us readers know.

Whether or not the accused/suspect is a US, UK, Israel, Tunisia, Nigeria, Chile, Vietnam or Mexico citizen here legally or illegally the press should report it. Nation of citizenship and immigration status is not a racist criteria.

Also I take it that the comment removed from the other thread is he racist comment you refer to.
