Walgreens doesn't need a liquor license, why so they can complete with all of the other liquor stores. The council doesn't get it. They are only diluting the sales tax, not bringing in more, not hiring additional staff, having homeless in both front & back of the store to beg for booze money. Has anyone asked the employees of the Santa Cruz store their thoughts ? of course not, they are listening to some corporate big shot in Ill who has never been to the Menlo Park store, but has a brain freeze that liquor will greatly increase sales ! We need a vote of confidence for the menlo city council !

Does $1 hamburgers at McDonalds create panhandling? Should everyone have to buy their burger from Left Bank?
Competition is good for consumers. The lack of competition is why your prescriptions can cost $500 or $1,000 per month but with competition you can get a burger at McDonalds for $1.
If you don't want to buy alcohol at Walgreens, don't do it. If no one wants it they won't sell it.
Walgreens is responding to perceived consumer demand. It's people who live, work, and shop in Menlo park who will be the consumers. Why do people try to run other peoples lives?
Folks if you have nothing to do, volunteer at s food pantry, church, or soup kitchen. Make a constructive difference.

Walgreen's does not need to be another resourse for liquor, don't we have enough already ? Also the city council went "numb" on allowing another pet store on Santa Cruz 1 block down from the "Pet Place" which has been there for 17 years, plus they allowed another new one in the Safeway shopping center ! All they are doing is spreading around the sales tax. When are they going to "get in" that diluting business's is not the answer ! How about finding "NEW" business and adding to existing ones !!

So this is the propaganda foisted on us by modern-day Carrie Nations? That it's all about the sales tax? I note that two "anti" posts, of course written by different people, both allude to that.
In point of fact, it's about offering choices and convenience to residents. It's also about price competition.
Better believe the Beltramo people are behind this latest burst of outrage. Hey, for all we know, BevMo has joined that little cabal too!
P.S. you do not create a plural with an apostrophe. More than one business = businesses. Please
