Monday, July 4 from 3 to 4:30 P.M. Menlo Park’s ragtime historian/pianist Nan Bostick presents another toe-tapping All-American Ragtime Blast concert to benefit SF's U.S.O at the First Baptist Church at 1100 Middle Ave. (corner Arbor) in Menlo Park. This year Nan will be dueling on pianos with special guest artist Dave Majchrzak, music director of Missouri's International Scott Joplin Ragtime Festival, who is traveling in from St. Louis. The concert also features Bay Area mandolinists Nick Robinson and Dennis Pash of The Ragtime Skedaddlers String Band plus guitarist/vocalist Meredith Axelrod and percussionist Pete Devine of Devine’s Jug Band. Donations gratefully accepted. No reservations required. Plenty of parking behind the church on Arbor. The church is wheelchair accessible.
Pastor Rick Line is head chef for the $5 a person BBQ feast that follows the concert at 5:00. A map to Menlo Park’s First Baptist Church is found at: www.firstbaptist.com. For more information, contact Carol at: 650-323-8544 or cjmaslin@juno.com.
Past July 4th Ragtime Blasts have generated over $1,000 for the U.S.O. The six musicians performing this year are featured artists at ragtime and traditional jazz festivals throughout the country including the annual Memorial Day Jazz Jubilee and November West Coast Ragtime Festival held in Sacramento, CA. Samples of their recordings may heard on-line at www.CDBaby.com.
