"The priorities need to be examined, he said, if sheriff's deputies are due for a raise while spending on youths are in line for cuts. "I'm the new guy on the block (but) I want to challenge that," he said. "My record in public service is very much one of an independent voice."
Here's hoping Pine takes a hard line against the sheriff's deputies.

What amazes me is that Dave Pine was elected with only 23,856 votes! With only a 26% voter turnout, this was LESS THAN 7% of the registered voters!
I was recently re-elected to the Sequoia Healthcare District, a subdivision of the county, with 25,133 votes(1277 more than Dave Pine).
We need instant runoff voting in the county so that the winner will have a majority of the votes. And, we must rethink the wisdom of an all mail ballot, and explore ways to increase voter turnout. Since the county collects e-mail addresses of registered voters, they could provide a means for candidates to connect to voters via the internet.

Jack,
Your 25,133 votes came from a much smaller voter pool. I think the Sequoia District has around 117,000 total voters compared to the 341,000 for the entire county.
Jack Hickey got 25,133 votes out of approx. 117,000
Dave Pine got 23,856 votes out of approx. 341,000

He has Union ties which means he is not against growth and develpment and creating jobs with HONEST builders........Is he taking the spot where Rich Gordon performed so unremarkably?
