I live in Santa Cruz and have seen mountain lions near my home during the day. Because mountain lions usually hunt in the evening or early morning, seeing one in the middle of the day means it has become habituated to humans and human hours. Read the book, Beast in the Garden, a book about mountain lions in Boulder Colorado where these cats stalked and attacked people after becoming habitutated. Various communities in CA have the same habitat as Boulder. These sightings are not to be taken lightly.
