Menlo Atherton Bears win 2 games in tournament

Original post made by Linda Lange, Menlo-Atherton High School, on Apr 19, 2011

On April 18th, the Menlo Atherton Bears varsity baseball team plays 2 dominating games in the Rancho Cordova tournament scoring 21 runs while giving up only 1. The first game against Lindhurst High School, showcased junior Michael Ogrey's varsity pitching debut with 5 innings of 2 hit baseball backed by sparkling defense with sophomore Alex Aguiar charging a ball from 3rd and whipping it to first for the out. In the second inning, 2nd baseman Will Lyons barehands a bad hop ball and fires to first. The bats were so lively the Lindhurst center fielder moved back to greater than 300 feet on a field with no fences to catch a blast by Chace Warren that would have been a home run anywhere else. Kyle Zirbes foiled them with another blast to the picnic benches for a 3 RBI triple.
The second game against Mesa Verde was re-named the “Miles Brewer Bears” as he led his team in both pitching and hitting with 2 home runs and 4 RBIs while giving up not a single run to Mesa Verde. He allowed only one fly ball (which was caught). All the rest of the outs in his 4 innings, 11 in total, were made by the infield with error free play taking a total of 40 pitches. Dylan Cook came in for 2 innings of relief, his second appearance of the day, to keep the door closed facing only 7. The bats again were busy with 5 different players hitting singles, 2 doubles (Alex Aguiar, Cam Winn) and 3 home runs by the pitchers; 2 by Miles Brewer and 1 by Dylan Cook.
The Bears have out scored their opponents 62-13 in their last 4 games and are 3-0 in the Rancho Cordova tournament, are 13-6 overall and 3-4 in league play.
