Each of the candidates for County Supervisor should explain in their campaign literature or websites their position on unfunded county pension liabilities and how they intend to address this ticking time bomb. This county needs real leadership, and that begins with articulating a position on how to address a hugh financial problem. Voters will reward the candidate who speaks the truth on this financial issue and doesn't simply say what sounds good now in terms of not wanting to cut spending.

I attended the meeting last night, we were asked 3 prepared questions.

1) Jobs/housing imbalance: According to ABAG in 2010, there were 330,100 jobs in San Mateo County and 175,750 commuters. Our roads are jammed because we continue to build jobs(the good news) but fail to keep pace with housing production. Jeff Martin, Tribal Brands and John Milligan, Gilead Sciences speaking at the EDGE Business Summit mentioned the cost and availability of housing as key recruitment issues.

What would you do to encourage housing production?

2) SAMTRANS and CalTrain: Both are very important transportation components to support the mobility alternatives to building and sustaining jobs growth. CalTrain does not have a dedicated source of funding. What are your ideas for creating a more reliable CalTrain system, and in fact, growing the system with greater train frequency.

3) Considering that a portion of the County's revenue comes from Business Property Taxes, How would you insure businesses remain and flourish in San Mateo County?

It was as if we were on a different planet....We are in a fiscal crisis.

So, Michael, what were your answers?

1) San Mateo County has 13,194 vacant housing units according to the census, that is more than double from 2000.

I am NO on Cargil Salt Flats project, on the bay period, I support the City of Redwood City in doing as many studies as they wish to invest in, and I support RWC with their Precise Building Plan.

2) I support Saving CalTrain and ALL Stops I support permanent funding and I support less trains per day and raising the fares now to a level where it pays for itself. I am NO on High Speed Rail in San Mateo County.

3) Government should stay out of Private Business, the BOS is responsible for providing services paid for by the Taxpayers. We are in a fiscal crisis now that must be solved.

Well, you certainly make your points (the exact same language of a lot of defeated candidates in the past few years...word for word in some cases)
You are also fortunate to have the editors liking your agenda. They supportyou without saying anything showing favoritism, and to make sure, overlook the dozens of messages sent by those who wonder about Stogner's qualifications.
Old fashioned, but effective until the day comes.
