Guest opinion: Amazon is trying to thwart new tax policy

There has been increasing media coverage of the sales tax equity fight in California in recent weeks. A few days ago, Board of Equalization member George Runner stated his belief that Amazon.com's declared intent to terminate its relationship with in-state affiliates was "an imminent threat to California jobs."

Does Keplers.com collect and remit sales tax on online purchases from shoppers in all 45 states that have a sales tax?

e.g. If I'm from Vermont, would you collect sales tax and remit it to Vermont's taxing authority so I don't owe use tax?

Nothing that Amazon does relieves me of my obligation to pay California use tax on my Amazon purchases if Amazon does not collect those taxes at the time of sale.
